New home, new chapter: ASU Prep Phoenix opens its doors on Indianola Avenue
After seventeen years on Fillmore Street, ASU Preparatory Academy Phoenix has a new address and an exciting chapter ahead.
This fall, the Phoenix campus moved to 201 E Indianola Ave. in downtown Phoenix, bringing students, teachers and families together under one roof just in time for the start of the school year.
After months of planning, moving and preparing the space, students walked through the doors on Aug. 10 for their first day of school.
From Fillmore to Indianola
Before saying goodbye to Fillmore, the ASU Prep Phoenix community gathered for Farewell to Fillmore in May. Students, families, teachers and staff returned to the familiar halls to share memories and celebrate the years spent there.
Now, the school community is settling into its next home while carrying those memories forward.
The Indianola Avenue campus serves students in grades K–12, with programs for elementary students in grades K–5 and junior high and high school students in grades 6–12.
The move continues ASU Prep Phoenix’s college-preparatory trajectory, including opportunities for students to access ASU courses beginning in ninth grade.
A campus with a story
There’s an unexpected piece of history built into the school’s new surroundings: the building was once an FBI facility.
On the untouched upper floors, remnants of its past can still be seen. The building’s history also means some security features were already in place when ASU Prep moved in.
For now, students will learn across the first three floors. But floors four and five offer an opportunity to dream a little bigger.
Phoenix families will eventually help imagine what those spaces could become, giving students and families a voice in shaping the future of their campus.
Celebrating the move
The weeks leading up to opening day were filled with the final details that turned the building into ASU Prep Phoenix’s next home. One of the most visible milestones came in July, when the school’s new signage went up at the entrance on 2nd Street and Indianola Avenue.
And this sign is doing more than marking the address: it lights up. The illuminated sign is a first for the school and adds a little extra Sun Devil spirit to the building after dark.
With the finishing touches in place, the transition officially reached a milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 7, when ASU Prep Phoenix teachers and leaders gathered to celebrate the campus opening.

Here’s to what comes next
From its beginnings in downtown Phoenix in 2009 to its years on Fillmore Street, ASU Prep Phoenix has built a strong history in the community.
Now, Indianola Avenue is the setting for the next part of that story.
The doors are open. The classrooms are full of eager students. And there’s plenty of room for the ASU Prep Phoenix community to make this place its own.
