College success starts at ASU Prep

Our 2025 seniors have built the foundation to apply confidently and stand out to colleges.

Start with choosing a college that’s right for you

Finding the right college is not a one-size-fits-all process. ASU Prep students work with Learning Success Coaches (LSCs) to explore options that match their academic goals, interests and personal priorities. 

Through ASU Prep, students also have the opportunity to experience real college life on an ASU campus before graduating, helping them make informed choices and feel confident about their next steps.

Plan ahead for college application milestones

Senior year of high school is the final stretch where all your preparation comes together. ASU Prep students stay on track with guidance from their LSCs and the year-long Senior Seminar, which covers college and career preparation, applications, resumes, scholarships and financial aid.

Key steps for high school seniors:

Finalize college list (summer/fall)

Research and confirm colleges that align with your goals.

Take standardized tests (fall)

Take the ACT/SAT if needed or retake to improve scores.

Apply for financial aid (fall)

Complete the FAFSA as soon as it opens on October 1.

Complete applications (fall/winter)

Submit essays, transcripts and recommendations on time.

Apply for grants & scholarships (winter/spring)

Gather materials and submit applications.

Understanding college application dates and decisions

Knowing when to submit applications and when to expect decisions helps students stay organized and reduce stress during senior year.

Early Decision (ED)

• When to apply: Typically in November of senior year.
• Decision notification: Usually December.
• Special note: ED is binding and students must attend if accepted.

Regular Decision (RD)

• When to apply: Typically between January and February.
• Decision notification: Usually March or April.

Next steps after decisions

• Compare acceptance letters, financial aid offers and scholarships.
• Confirm your college choice by the required deadline, usually May 1.
• Notify other colleges that you will not be attending.

During Senior Seminar, ASU Prep students receive guidance every step of the way, from organizing materials to submitting applications, so they can approach the college application process with confidence. Use this checklist to plan what you’ll need to prepare and submit a strong college application:

  SAT, ACT and any AP or college courses
