Rahul Sharma builds success by design at Global Academy at ASU Prep

Some students follow a path. Rahul Sharma creates his own.

Rahul is a high-achieving Global Academy at ASU Prep senior who approaches learning with intention, constantly challenging himself to go deeper and think beyond the expected. Whether that means earning a 1560 on the SAT, taking college-level courses during high school or being nominated for one of the nation’s highest honors for graduating seniors.

But what sets Rahul apart is not just what he has achieved. It’s how he thinks. He approaches learning like a system, something to test, refine and improve over time. That mindset has shaped every step of his journey.

Designed, not default

Rahul’s academic journey began in a traditional, high-performing school environment, where he consistently ranked among the top students in his class. But even in that setting, he knew he wanted something more aligned with his goals.

“I was seeking a more flexible and accelerated path,” he explains.

That search led him to ASU Prep Digital and eventually to Global Academy, where he could balance rigorous academics with his growing interests in robotics, economics and research.

The shift was about more than flexibility. He wanted ownership of his education.

Without the structure of a traditional school day, Rahul had to build his own systems for success, including how he studied, how he managed his time and how he stayed motivated.

Over time, that independence became one of his greatest strengths.

I would describe myself as an intellectually curious, disciplined and ambitious interdisciplinary thinker.”

Mastery through iteration

Rahul’s approach to learning is rooted in one idea: improvement comes from iteration.

That mindset became especially clear during his SAT journey. Despite early setbacks and strategies that didn’t work, he kept adjusting.

He tried prep books. He tried coaching. When those methods fell short, he stepped back and asked a different question: What actually works for me?

The answer was simple but demanding: practice, review and repetition.

Rahul completed Khan Academy’s full SAT curriculum independently, worked through dozens of practice tests and reviewed every mistake until patterns began to emerge. Then he did it again.

The result: a 1560 SAT score.

But for Rahul, the number wasn’t the most important outcome.

It was the process.

Redefining discipline

Along the way, Rahul developed a more nuanced understanding of discipline.

He knew success was not about perfection or maximum effort, but strategically focusing energy for the greatest impact.

“I soon realized that method is short term and exhausting mentally, as you are constantly trying to go above and beyond on everything,” he reflects.

That shift allowed him to balance an intense academic load, including multiple college-level courses, while continuing to grow in other areas, from competitions to independent learning.

It’s a mindset that prioritizes depth over volume and intention over intensity.

Recognition at the highest level

Rahul’s work has not gone unnoticed. He was nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school seniors, recognizing exceptional academic achievement, leadership and potential.

For Rahul, the opportunity is meaningful. It offers the chance to connect with other high-achieving students, explore new ideas and expand his perspective.

“I want to see Washington, D.C. and network with some of the greatest minds that have graced this planet. The lifetime alumni network will also provide opportunities I never imagined I would have access to,” he shares.

Recognition wasn’t his goal, but it’s a natural byproduct of consistent effort and intentional growth.

Everyone is on their own journey, with their own strengths and weaknesses.”

Learning beyond the classroom

Through Global Academy, Rahul has been able to extend his learning beyond traditional coursework.

Access to ASU classes, internship opportunities and flexible scheduling has allowed him to explore his interests more deeply, including pursuing a business internship and diving into advanced topics in economics and statistics.

At the same time, the online environment has pushed him to grow in new ways. He’s learned to manage his time, build consistent routines and stay disciplined without external structure. He’s also become more intentional about maintaining connections and balance outside of academics.

“My experience at ASU Prep has helped me become more independent, self-directed and deliberate in both my academic and personal life,” he reflects.

In short, his experiences now are preparing him for college earlier, making his vision for success a reality.

Looking ahead with purpose

Rahul plans to study robotics engineering and economics at ASU, with a focus on solving complex, real-world problems at the intersection of technology and society.

His long-term goal is to build solutions through innovation, entrepreneurship or research that have a meaningful and lasting impact.

“I want to approach problems thoughtfully and develop solutions that are effective, sustainable and ethical,” he says.

Built to keep improving

Rahul Sharma’s story isn’t defined by a single score, award or milestone.

The process is what got him here.

He’s a student who doesn’t just follow a path, he builds his own system for success, tests it, refines it and keeps improving. He approaches every challenge the way his mom taught him: “Practice without review is like not practicing at all.”

That advice guides how he studies, tackles AP exams, prepares for the SAT and hones his skills across every project or competition.

Rahul’s ready to take on the world, with skills, determination and a diploma that will open doors. With his mindset, there’s no limit to where his learning can go.
