When Amy McGrath, Managing Director of ASU Preparatory Academy, looks at Escuela Mundial Khan @ ASU Prep, she sees it from a perspective few people can claim.
McGrath helped co-design the vision behind Khan World School alongside Sal Khan. As Vice President of Educational Outreach and Student Services for Arizona State University, Managing Director of ASU Preparatory Academy, she has spent her career exploring how technology and innovative school models can create greater opportunity for students.
Now, she’s seeing the model from a very different vantage point: as a mom.
McGrath’s three children are Khan World School students, as is her identical twin sister Lisa’s oldest son. Lisa also works for ASU, and together, the sisters have four children spanning four consecutive high school grades: Grady in 12th, Cameron in 11th, Nolan in 10th and Reese in 9th.
For McGrath, it’s a chance to watch something she helped envision become part of her family’s everyday life.
This Univision story features Khan World School at ASU Prep and their recent designation as one of the top ten schools in the world. This local Arizona online school is part of ASU Preparatory Academy and enrolls students from Arizona, across the U.S. and from 13 countries around the world.

The Levitt Lab at Da Vinci Connect, powered by ASU Prep, is a new Da Vinci School in El Segundo, CA. The Da Vinci team partnered with Amy McGrath from ASU and renowned economist and Freakonomics author Steve Levitt to create this free, public high school experience designed for today’s learners.
It combines flexible, personalized learning with online coursework from ASU Prep, Socratic-style discussions, in-depth explorations, hands-on projects that tackle real-world problems and more.
