Innovation never rests. With an unwavering commitment to enhancing K–12 education, ASU Prep Global has introduced a game-changing addition to its Learning Cloud curriculum—learning blocks. Designed to offer flexibility, personalization and engagement, this updated format is a hit with teachers and students alike.

What are learning blocks?

Learning blocks break down subjects into focused, 15-20-minute lessons that tackle one objective or purpose at a time. In addition to instructional sections, each block includes a clear overview, a summary and an “exit ticket.” These structured units help students build crucial foundational skills in manageable chunks, making it easier for them to understand and retain information.

This approach not only supports students but also empowers teachers to tailor their lesson plans. Amanda Gaspary, a Curriculum Development Strategist at ASU Prep, highlights how Learning Blocks are changing the game: “The shorter format helps teachers plan standards-aligned lessons in a more targeted way.”

Flexibility is the star of the show

“The flexibility of the curriculum is in its modular nature,” explains Gaspary. “Teachers can choose and arrange the blocks à la carte, as needed, in a way that works best for their students and their lesson planning.”

“We designed learning blocks to allow teachers in blended classrooms ultimate flexibility in how they leverage our product to meet their unique needs.”

Alessandra Allen, Director of Product Management at ASU Prep

Allen emphasizes that learning blocks remove common barriers in digital curriculum: “It’s unlocked, divisible, flexible, comprehensive and it covers the standards. Teachers are free to build upon what they’re already doing.”

Why teachers and students love it

Learning blocks were designed with input from curriculum developers, teachers, and school staff to ensure the content is modern, practical, and aligned with educational standards. This collaborative process started with preview stages and continues through regular feedback sessions, creating a resource that evolves to meet the needs of educators and students alike.

Already implemented in six ASU Prep Global online courses—English 11 and 12, World History, Biology, Chemistry, US Government and Civics—the learning block format allows teachers to customize lessons to their students’ needs. Students benefit from short, interactive lessons that connect to real-life topics, making learning engaging and relevant.

Educators and students alike have expressed their enthusiasm for the learning block format. Here’s what they had to say:

What Teachers Are Saying

  • Comprehensive and impactful

Teachers rave about the quality of the curriculum. One educator shared, “I’ve never had access to a curriculum as comprehensive and impressive as this one, and I’m incredibly grateful for it. Your work has truly elevated my teaching.”

  • Flexibility in teaching

The design fosters innovative approaches. “I really enjoy the freedom to do a flipped classroom. The modules are well constructed and allow me to use my classroom time to enrich, practice, collaborate, and clarify,” one teacher noted.

  • Ease of integration

Teachers also appreciate its user-friendliness. “It has been very easy to incorporate into the current curriculum and allows students a better alternative to watching videos or other assignments.”

What Students Are Saying

Students are equally enthusiastic about the learning blocks, citing the engaging design and interactive features as game-changers for their education:

  • A step above traditional materials

“My old courses were slides with information crammed on them and no questions to check that I was learning. Now with Learning Cloud, the way information is presented helps me remember it and the activities/checkpoints really help me establish my memory.”

  • Real-time progress tracking

“I like how you can see the different topics in real time and see how much more you have left of the section you are in.”

  • User-friendly design

“I’ve enjoyed the simplicity and interactivity of the software, and the fact that guided notes are available for the different lessons. I also enjoy the layout of the software.”

  • Support for active learning

The format encourages exploration and support when needed. “I really enjoy the structure of Learning Cloud and what it brings to learning as far as the reading and question answering go. I also appreciate that it allows you to take a step back and gives you a hint to what the answer might be when it is incorrect.”

This shared enthusiasm from both teachers and students highlights how collaboration has transformed the educational experience.
