At ASU Preparatory Academy Polytechnic, students are empowered to pursue academic excellence, leadership and personal growth. Recent graduate Kate Jewett embodies this mission, earning the prestigious ASU Alumni Medallion Scholarship, a recognition of academic excellence, leadership and service.

A well-deserved honor

“When I found out, I was jumping up and down with joy,” Jewett said. “The fact that I was chosen for this award out of all the candidates who applied is such a great honor.” She added that the support means the world to her and has truly changed her life.

At ASU Prep, Jewett challenged herself academically, taking full advantage of the school’s accredited programs to prepare for college. Her dedication paid off, opening doors to opportunities such as her scholarship.

“I was able to take college courses, which helped me earn credits and get ahead,” she said. “Personally, I was shaped into a confident, bold woman by my amazing friends at ASU Prep.”

Confidence and authenticity for the next chapter

Jewett credits ASU Prep with preparing her to enter college with confidence and authenticity. “I’m entering this new chapter focused on being my true self so I can look back with no regrets,” she said.

Reflecting on the scholarship application process, Jewett emphasized the importance of honesty and authenticity. “There are multiple paragraph questions on the [Medallion Scholarship] application, and although they may look overwhelming, if you just speak from the heart, you’ll do just fine,” she said. “Honestly, just be yourself and speak your truth boldly and unapologetically.”

A community of growth and opportunity

Medallion Scholars participate in a distinctive program that promotes academic and professional growth, encourages volunteerism and strengthens ties within the Sun Devil community. Jewett is excited about exploring new volunteer opportunities and giving back to those around her.

“There are so many networking opportunities within this scholarship community, and I hope to leverage those opportunities,” Jewett said. “There are many ASU alumni and faculty involved, and it will be incredibly beneficial to connect and build relationships with the people around me.”

She also notes that the program supports her career goals by helping her gain a foothold in desirable industries, and the academic resources provided will help her stay on track in college.

Honestly, just be yourself and speak your truth boldly and unapologetically.”
