At ASU Prep South Phoenix High School, we are celebrating an extraordinary milestone! Every single one of our 9th grade students successfully passed their first college course, earning ASU college credit–at no cost to their families. This incredible achievement highlights the dedication of our students and staff to academic excellence and future success.
What makes this milestone even more inspiring is that it reflects the incredible diversity and resilience of our students. Many of our 9th graders are English Language Learners or have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and with the right support and resources, they thrived in this rigorous academic opportunity.
A team effort
This achievement reflects the dedication and teamwork of ASU Prep South Phoenix educators and staff, demonstrating the power of collaboration in driving student success.
Principal Dr. Patrick Gibbs shared, “Our students worked really hard. Many were nervous about the rigor involved in a college class, but our students found amazing support from Ms. Hunt, Ms. Camacho and all the staff that supported after-school tutoring.” He added, “With 100% of our 9th grade students passing their first college class, I’m hoping that each and every one of them knows that they can be successful in college.”
Science Teacher Samantha Hunt, who encouraged her students throughout the process, shared, “I definitely want to share how incredibly proud I am of my 9th graders. They’ve worked so hard and seeing them earn their very first college credits is just amazing. They are making big steps toward their futures!” She added, “It’s a reminder of why we do what we do. Helping students discover their potential and achieve their goals is the heart of education.”
Learning Success Coach Amanda Camacho, who guided and supported students in staying focused on their goals, reflected, “This is a remarkable milestone. I am so incredibly proud of all of my 9th graders for earning college credit at such an early start as high school students! I can’t wait to see what they will accomplish next.”

ASU Prep South Phoenix is proud to be part of ASU Preparatory Academy, a tuition-free public charter school network serving students from Pre-K through grade 12. We offer flexible learning models, from immersive in-person classes to full-time digital programs, designed to meet the needs of every learner.
Our personalized, project-based approach helps students excel academically, explore their passions and develop a love of learning. Through initiatives like earning 12 ASU college credits at no cost, students gain valuable experience, save on future tuition and prepare to lead and make an impact.
