Fillmore Future

An Important Update on the Future of ASU Prep Phoenix

The Phoenix Elementary School District (PESD) Board recently made a significant decision to notify ASU of their intention not to renew the lease for ASU Prep Phoenix’s location at 7th Street and Fillmore when it expires in June 2026. This decision, which affects 1,200 students and their families, was made with no notice and limited opportunity for public input.

ASU Prep Phoenix serves an essential need in the community, providing families with access to quality educational opportunities that support high school completion and college readiness. For over 150 years, Phoenix Elementary has been a steward of educational excellence, and ASU Prep Academy has proudly partnered in that mission. Together, we share a vision of putting students first and ensuring that their educational needs remain a top priority.

We believe it is vital for both PESD and ASU to continue open, collaborative discussions to find a long-term solution that serves the best interests of students and families. Our commitment is unwavering—we will do everything possible to ensure that the voices of our students, families, and community are heard, and that decisions are made with transparency and the shared goal of supporting the success of every student.

What can I do to support ASU Prep?

It is vitally important that the Governing Board and leadership of the Phoenix Elementary School District continue to hear from you that their rushed and covert process is unfair, and what ASU Prep means for you and your family.

    • The meeting is held at PESD’s district office at 1817 N 7th St.
    • Arrive no later than 4:45pm to sign up to make a public comment.
    • The meetings can be long, so eat prior and/or bring snacks!
  • Email your comments about why ASU Prep matters for your family and the importance of hearing community voices to CommunityRelations@PhxSchools.org with the subject “Community Communication”, to be read aloud at the board meeting.

Family FAQs

  • How does this impact ASU Prep operating at its current location?

The current school year and 2025-2026 school year are entirely unaffected and operations remain as normal. We are doing everything in our power to ensure we continue to operate in our current location for the 2026 school year and beyond. Things are moving quickly, and we commit to keep you fully informed as this issue unfolds. Check the “Future of ASU Prep Fillmore” section in each newsletter for regular updates. Even if there are no major developments, we’ll keep you informed of our progress.

  • Is ASU Prep searching for alternative locations?

We are focusing our efforts on ensuring that the voices of our students, families, staff, and community members are heard by PESD leadership and continuing to engage in meaningful discussions about how we may collaborate and communicate to seek long-term solutions that meet both of our needs. This collaborative approach reflects our mutual commitment to putting students ahead of all else.
