Introducing ASU Prep South Phoenix High School’s Transformational Teacher Leaders

« Back  |

At ASU Prep South Phoenix High School, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our Transformational Teacher Leader (TTL) program. This initiative aims to empower educators to lead both in and outside the classroom, fostering a vibrant learning environment that inspires students and staff alike.

What is a Transformational Teacher Leader?

Transformational Teacher Leaders at ASU Prep embody our mission and core values. They are trailblazers who lead by example, using data and research to inform their decisions. These leaders implement innovative techniques, take calculated risks, and promote collaboration throughout our school community.

In this dual role, TTLs maintain their teaching responsibilities while ascending to instructional leadership positions, offering them the best of both worlds. This advancement track is perfect for teachers who are passionate about teaching and eager to expand their leadership capabilities.

Meet our Transformational Teacher Leaders

Matthew Cardoza

Matthew Cardoza

Mr. Cardoza brings a wealth of experience as a social studies educator with an undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University and a Master’s from Arizona State University. Hailing from Ventura, California, his beloved coastal hometown, Mr. Cardoza believes in the power of levity and lightheartedness, which may play a role in his leadership philosophy influenced by Lao Tzu’s wisdom: “A leader is best when people barely know he exists; when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.”

Mr. Cardoza has developed a strong proficiency in using technology like ChatGPT for enhancing teaching methods, including Project-Based Learning design and lesson planning.

Lisa Mills

Lisa Mills

Ms. Mills is an experienced math educator with a passion for challenges and a love for kayaking and running. An Arizona State University alumna, she cherishes spending quality time with her two teenagers. She resonates with Dr. Seuss’ thought: “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” She is excited about building new relationships and solving problems in her new role, embodying the problem-solving spirit of math educators.

Her superpower lies in understanding the connections between math and science, providing real-world examples and STEM lessons that engage students. With expertise in vertical alignment and differentiation, Lisa has taught grades 6 through 12, making her adept at addressing diverse learning needs.

Embracing leadership for educational success
